Experience an empathic manifesto at Habitare 2023

Behind Habitare's 2023 theme are the designers of Studio Plenty, Anna Pirkola and Kirsikka Simberg. The theme for the exhibition “Together” sprung from the context of the pandemic era and the importance of a collective state of mind. With this exhibition they are turning lemons into lemonade; to find the positives without ignoring the reality. The dynamic duo used 50x50 tiles from Bolon’s Artisan and Botanic collections.

How did Bolon flooring help visualize your idea for the main exhibit?

With Bolon it's easy and fun to play with colors and shapes. It’s like an endless source of possibilities, which can sometimes make things also hard with the decisions. We wanted to create different areas, spaces and shapes with flooring, and that is especially where Bolon is brilliant. Our whole second floor is red from the stairs to the floor and to the walls. We have also painted shapes on one wall that continues to the roof and also to the floor with the same colored Bolon so the floor is like a seamless partner here.

How does the flooring connect with the Together theme?

The Habitare 2023 theme, Together, highlights the sense of togetherness in challenging times. The theme also explores our changing world, and how, together, we must consider new perspectives on consumption and living. In the end, it is a reassuring thought that we are part of a global community that is breathing in the same rhythm.

2. Reference Library - A Bookworm's Paradise

Are you a materials nerd who can't get enough of textures, colors, and all that jazz? Then you're in for a treat! Habitarematerials has a reference library that's like a treasure trove for your curious soul. Sample portfolios, brochures, and literature about the featured materials are all waiting for you to explore. It's like being in a candy store, but for design enthusiasts!

The pandemic turned the world on its head and pushed the design industry to explore new ways. It seems like we are, in some ways, returning to the world before the pandemic. So what should one expect from SFF 2023?

- First and foremost some great exhibitors. We have more than 400 exhibitors and more new brands signed up than in many years. We have more flexible areas such as Nude, with small stands in recycled material, and the gallery, with design launching during design week in the city. The new initiative Älvsjö gård shows more experimental design and really mirrors what we see in the design industry today. It’s the first fair in three years and it’s a very uncertain time in the world, and a rocky market - all these factors will play in. But I am certain we will feel rejuvenated.
