The challenge with designing for hotels and frequently visited spaces like gyms, lounge areas and spa’s is that design, function and guest experience demands the same attention. It is a true art form to balance beauty and safety in the same project. Bolon flooring is used in hotels all over the world, proving our range and ability to create tailor made solutions for each and every project.
One object that is a living testament to this is the Javri Lodge in the Finnish Lapland. 260 km north of the Arctic Circle is the wooden chalet style boutique hotel that offers a true escape from hectic urban life and offers intimate connections with nature.
When the Mehtajarvi couple took over, the challenge was to create a contemporary hotel without compromising the nature or heritage of the north. “It has become clear that respect for nature, guest’s appreciation of purity and other general ecological and ethical values are the most important aspects of our hotel philosophy.”
“We wanted those kinds of old-style elements in the wooden building. The flooring we fell for is very much like these old-style linen cloths, used in saunas as a seat cover in Finnish “laudeliina”. The pattern is exactly like that... The kind we used in the 60’s and 70’s – which happens to be the same time those log-walls were built”, says one the owners, Juha.
